If you are not familiar with The Blue Man Group, google them. Reading their story and checking out their show layout reminds me of The Brooklyn Circus' vision. I actually remember when the small show ( no longer small) started in Soho years ago. Now they are a globally recognized show,with permanent residence on the Vegas stage. Yep! We heard some good things about the Las Vegas' Deadstock Guru's, Fruition, so we went to go check them out. Let me tell you, they have a wild collection of threads I haven't seen in years, straight DeJaVu, not to mention some of the greatest customer service we've experienced in boutique retail. This here starts the Solemates Magic recap...b and I took off to vegas earlier this week- while Mouse, Ashley and our new intern Nikki held down solemates in Chicago... it was our first time leaving our baby, but we left it in good hands. Thank you guys for keeping everything tight! you made it easy for us. back to the recap...we started this trip toooooo early in the am, but business needs to be handled. That being said I had my "new" bberry in hand, while Brian was equipped with his spiffy iphone and PSP- talk about a team (joke). Anyhow, the flights were something else- booked on Delta, we flew a sea plane (charter) to Atlanta and switched over to korean air, no joke. when was the last time you stepped off a plane outdoors in the states? we were on our way to Vegas- ha! altogether the end result was awesome, we met up with our BKc fam- The Bearded Ouigi, Gabe, and Ness- and the trip began...

We caught up with our good friends Omar & Les from City All-Stars in Jersey and Autumn & Brian from Solemates Chicago for a nice buffet dinner. Lots of LOL's and WTF's... but most importantly we all got to share our individual perspective & input on this Retail Fashion game and how we're gonna take over the world... j/k. ;) The Bearded man, a veteran in this game talked about the importance of loyalty and integrity in this business, while Omar & Les couldn't emphasize enough the significance of a great solid team... and that we are!

Gabe and The Bearded man met in New York at F.I.T 4 years ago both as Communication Design majors and never stopped communicating their love & appreciation for design and world travel since then. It's not everyday that you meet people that just "get it," understand the vision and recognize the worth this fashion hustle. Tradeshow & BKc Sample: Season

I think we are running out of tittles or energy. Either way it means that we are working day in and day out to update you on what's happenning where we are. It's now 4:52am in Sin City Las Vegas and we are up (not all of us). Everyone here is sleeping except fo The Bearded Man who felt obligated to update you guys. The rest of the gang wanted to stay up but just couldn't. I'll wake them up early in the am to hit the road,so we'll let them sleep.We caught up with Autumn and Brian from Solemates and ran down to The Project Show with them. Also caught up with Leslie and Omar from City Allstar our jersey folks. At any rate,the show wasn't bad at all, looks like Magic has injected the big build out elements to the Project show. Insiders: Sam is smiling all the way to the bank,ohh well.

Tradeshow & BKc Sample: Season

For everyone involved in the retail game it's Tradeshow season. The linesheets are flying,folks are preparing for Magic and all the brands are eager to show buyers, the media and the world what they've worked on the past few months. With that comes some good ish and some really wild ish. Shay digs who is becoming the team's fit and catalogue model did the honors of working with our sample makers to get our fits right and hopefully complete our samples for the show. Him and Al went down to the sample makers to get things right. The Bkc wil not be exhibiting at The shows, but will be headed to Magic,Pool,Project and United in Vegas and will take a ton of pictures for your viewing pleasure.
We will be in Vegas: The 26th - The 30th of August.

I had to call on Bay Area Gabe to share in on this EXPERIENCE,nothing but amazing,simply amazing. His subjects, his process, the depth in his creations, his energy, and the books he produces, DOPE! Everything about his creative energy was a memorable experience like the first time you found out about the little store on the side block in Brooklyn, "The Brooklyn Circus," and you had the chance to walk out with a bag. The Brookland Circus!

'The Greatest Show on Earth' came to Oakland Cali this weekend (hence BROOKLAND), So the BKc SF had to go check it out. It was a WILD non-stop 2 hour Show! Organized & Coordinated Chaos I'd say! Extremely talented performers from All over the world made it a definite one of a kind experience. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey began this most unique entertainment form over 135 years ago, goes to show that quality entertainment never goes out of style! Check it.//

Certainly not our favorite stop on this trip, but if you like touristy things please go right along and indulge. It's a whole day of culture about The Polynesian islands, Hawaii,Samoa,Fiji,Tahiti,New Zealand,Tonga and Marquesas. Don't do the tour bus,rent a car and go when you want and also leave when you want. The BKc Black Out of Aug 2007 x Hawaii'

Now back to the Beautiful Island of Oahu! Now, even though it's nice in Waikiki, like I said before, it's a city, so we ventured out into the North Shore where they are known for gigantic waves( 25-40 feet waves) and beautiful scenery. We dropped by this spot Macky's, a broke down school bus with some graffiti on it, but inside was the most delicious shrimp you will probably find in Hawaii! Abosolutely BKc approved, yikes! I definitely recommend it to whoever comes here, and aside from the amazing food, the customer service was off the hook! TRUST US!

Now, those giant sea turtles you see were not in the local aquarium, there is a beach on the North Shore where they actually come all the way up to the sand to eat the algae on the rocks, CRAZY! I think we broke some rules by touching em', Not the first time we were breaking things touching turtles ;)

Our gracious hosts on the North Shore took us around the island and introduced us to cuts and crevices that a tour guide wouldn't dare! We went places that even the boldest LA papparazzi wouldn't go! Thanks Jaynelle and Jim Yep! The BKc Black Out of Aug 2007 x Hawaii' is everything . . .

So me & the Bearded Man were a little weary on going to the SneakerPimps event last weekend for the simple fact of.. when does seeing a bunch of custom kicks get a lil redundant? (especially when you got Kswiss backing the whole production.) But, nonetheless, we decided to go and make the best of it... and it ended up being a pretty cool night. The Famous and everso talented dj Kid Capri rocked the building with some straight New York energy, and Oaklands One and Only Too Short got the crowd feelin' real hard core with his pimp tracks. "B-i-o-o-tCH!" But most of all, we got introduced to some amazing art by one of the BKC's new favorite artists; David Choong Lee... more of him to come. Check it.//

2 days until darryl meets the circus...

only two days left until d's departure...the family had a going away party for him over the weekend. it's always nice to just sit back with family and friends and celebrate an occasion. our dad was the grill and mom in the kitchen, while darryl and paul provided the soundtrack. i can't forget the mini-me hula hoop either...throwback! when was the last time you hula hooped? the youngin's were so showing us up! but it was all love as went sent him off for school. pratt university and the brooklyn circus, here he comes! oh yeah, you ask what i did? i was on clean-up duty...as usual. love it!

This morning was a pretty filled one, reason for the late post. Yesterday we ran the city of San Francisco hooking up with Matt from Free Gold Watch, a stop by Fat Lace and chat with Ron and Geoff, then off to grab a late dinner with Boots,Neil and Guss from Harputs.

Matt is always willing to chat and share ideas with us and this time was no different. Matt have no fear your ideas are safe with us, just looking forward to some of the things we kicked it about.

Fatlace: DOPE! DOPE! DOPE! The store the vibe and merch was on point. Ofcourse I had my eye on the staff shirt that was not available to the public,:(. I am strongly considering a fix bike, if I do I will surely cop my frame and parts from FatLace and ride with them. Not sure if the old man's knees can keep up with that torture, time will tell. Thanks fellas.

Last night was wild: So wild that the digi cam's battery died, preventing us from shooting the fun. Man oh man!!!!!

we only have one week until d heads to brooklyn for a new chapter of his life...solemates will miss him! he is definitely our in-house all around guy, what are we going to do without him?!! if you think you have what it takes to replace him, holler at us. trust that you will have some big shoes to fill with this renaissance man leaving- artist, musician, photographer, deep thinker, hard worker, genuine salesperson, and my brother...just to name a few. i'm wiping my tears. he's awesome! words to the brooklyn circus- you have a good one coming...how about a trade?

Flying is fun for those who don't travel for a living, I read something like that on Jeff Staples' blog a few months ago and it always replays in my head when I am on the road. This month we are going to be on the road allot, Oakland and San Francisco this week.The weeks to come Honolulu,then LA, then Vegas and the family in Atlanta. I know we are a day late on reporting about The BKc Black Out of Aug 2007 launch as we were a few hours late for the crowd of about 100 people that showed up for the 1pm opening. Nonetheless we are in full BLACK OUT gear. The turn out for the Launch thru out the day Friday August 3rd was amazing!!!!!. Non stop from 1pm-11pm folks stopped in to experience The BKc Black Out of Aug 2007 at The Brooklyn Circus. If you see more cats on Broadway, Brooklyn,Harlem,Boston,DC,Queens,Yonkers,Brazil,Ireland (if I forgot your town,shout us out) wearing Black The BKc Black Out is responsible for it. These are the places that folks traveled from to experience The BKc Black Out of Aug 2007 first hand on Friday. Thanks a million to all the folks that came out to make the launch a success, it means a ton to us.

If you did not visit us you might have missed out on some goodies, but we are launching new goodies every other day for the ENTIRE month of August (Friday August 3rd-Friday August 31!!! 28 Days of pure heat). Stay tuned for all the pics from the opening night (friday),The prior day prep bloopers(Thursday), The Day after the launch (saturday) and more.

recently we had the pleasure of linking up with a pair of incredible interior designers based in chicago. robin and greg of grid gallery, stopped by the store last week and chatted it up with us. they saw our article in ur magazine and the loved the concept of the store. upon finding out they were interior designers- it was a match made it heaven. sooo many of their pieces are exact fits for solemates...crazy! i stopped by the gallery and loved it!! they were undergoing a small renovation, but it did not take away from the vibe. you must stop by...below are pics of the space and greg on our new couch (which is for sale). the couch was a perfect new addition for our grand opening party...love it!

solemates x bkc grand opening recap...

we celebrated our opening in a major way last night! people came out to take part in the solemates x BKC experience...truly an unforgettable evening. the day started early, with the whole fam running around to get the last minute goods. it all payed off in the end... great music, people, drinks and shopping. we teamed up with project mayhem for the afterparty, so i am struggling to write this blog - i am sooooo tired. still, life goes on...i'll drink some coffee and get over it. here's some pics...for more hit up fashionation...love it!
